You can pray all day long, but if your body is stuck in a survival state, your brain will keep generating threat-based thoughts no matter how strong your faith is.

That is where somatics comes in. Somatics is the study of the body as experienced from the inside. It is the practice of tuning into your internal landscape — your breath, your tension, your posture, your gut signals — and using that awareness to shift your nervous system out of fight, flight, or freeze and back into a state of safety and connection.

Here is what most people miss: Scripture has been teaching this all along. God did not design your spirit to operate independently of your body. He breathed life into your lungs. He knit your nervous system together in the womb. He designed your vagus nerve, your diaphragm, and every cell that responds to safety or threat. When David wrote about being “fearfully and wonderfully made,” he was talking about the same biological systems that modern neuroscience is just now catching up to.
